What Is Real Reparations?

Real Reparations is a pioneering organisation dedicated to addressing the historical injustices wrought by the transatlantic slave trade.

We are founded on the belief that acknowledging and rectifying the past is just the first step towards building a just future.

We must go further to purposefully, strategically and intentionally invest in those communities that have been disproportionately affected by slavery's enduring legacy.

“Real Reparations stands as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. Through our commitment to advocacy, education, and community empowerment, we are making strides in the ongoing fight for justice. Our work reminds us that addressing historical injustices is not merely a matter of restitution but a necessary step towards creating a fairer and more equitable world for all. By investing in the communities most affected by the transatlantic slave trade, we are paving the way for a brighter future, one rooted in understanding, healing, and justice.” Chair

Statement of Purpose:

Real Reparations UK LTD is a pioneering community company dedicated to advancing reparatory and restorative justice in response to the enduring legacies of Transatlantic chattel slavery and its continuing social, economic and cultural impacts.

Our mission is to create meaningful pathways toward healing, equity, and restoration by working collaboratively with affected communities, businesses, and other stakeholders to develop sustainable, community-led reparative outcomes.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to justice, recognising both the historical harms caused by slavery and colonialism and their ongoing consequences for people of African descent and wider society. We seek to create spaces for truth-telling, accountability, dialogue and action, ensuring that reparations are not simply a reflection of the past but a catalyst for a more equitable future.

We believe that reparatory justice must go beyond acknowledgement and apology. It must create tangible opportunities for healing, empowerment, community development and intergenerational prosperity.
